Whitening is a process of applying gel onto your front teeth, with the use of custom trays, to lighten their shade. The gel works to remove persistent deep stains and darkness from in the tooth which gather from diet and bad habits over time. It does not weaken or damage your tooth structure, but some sensitivity can be felt temporarily during the process. Only your natural tooth will change colour, as the gel will not change the colour of fillings, veneers or crowns.

At Droitwich Dental Studio, we offer different types of whitening systems:
Home Whitening: This is when customised trays are made and you perform the whitening in the comfort of your own home. The process takes between 1-4 weeks but can take longer for heavily discoloured teeth. It is the most cost-effective system.
Enlighten whitening: This combines home and in-surgery whitening. It uses special whitening trays which you will wear overnight for about two weeks, followed by a 1-hour treatment at your dentist to get the final results. Enlighten is a highly effective tooth whitening option with a guaranteed colour result.
You will need to attend for an examination first, and at that time our experienced dentists will be able to show you a realistic expectation based on the current colour of your teeth, to help you make a decision.
Whitening will need to be topped up every 3-18 months, a few days at a time, to maintain the colour. The time frame depends on your social and dietary habits, as will be discussed with your dentist.

Are You A Suitable Candidate For Teeth Whitening Treatment?
- The minimum age requirement for teeth whitening is 18
- As part of your initial consultation, your dentist will check if your teeth and gums are healthy to proceed
- Whitening your teeth during pregnancy or breastfeeding isn’t recommended because the whitening products might affect your baby
- Please note that tooth whitening can’t change the colour of any crowns, veneers, bridges, or dentures.
- We’ll need to schedule a consultation with you to see if you’re eligible for whitening treatments. If so, we will decide on a suitable whitening option, as well as the associated costs.
If you’re not suited for dental treatment, our dentist will consider alternative options like composite bonding, veneers, or crowns. During your consultation, we will discuss the alternatives with you.
Preventing Future Dental Stains
Eliminating just a few bad habits may be all you need to keep your teeth healthy and looking their best. If you are a coffee or wine drinker, cut back or switch to something else.
